Connect @ your library in August

There are many things happening in August where libraries can connect with communities and communities can connect with libraries—Children’s Book Week (19-25); National Science Week (12-20); and National Literacy and Numeracy Week (28 Aug-3 Sep).
Check out the calendar to find out what else is happening.

What can you do @ your library?

  • Ask a local personality to read a book to children during Children’s Book Week
  • Offer ‘how to’ sessions on using databases, catalogues or searching the internet
  • Display your scientific collections during National Science Week or get a scientist to talk about their job
  • Get involved with a local festival. Your library could be a venue or organise your own event focusing on the library as part of the festival.

Radio advertising campaign

If you were listening to your radio in June, you might have heard some familiar words—“@ your library”. The Queensland Public Libraries Association developed five radio ads to promote the @ your library campaign. They were centered around the theme of You’re welcome @ your library and depicted situations people use their libraries for – welcome back, welcome help, welcome relief, welcome for free and welcome in.

These ads are now available for you to listen, download and use.

Evaluation

August is the last month of this current statewide @ your library campaign. To ascertain its success, Kirsten Harte from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), is conducting an evaluation and may be in contact with you to discuss how you used @ your library.
